Nothing is more thirst quenching than coconut water. The second purest drink after water, and its unfailing ability to rejuvenate and rehydrate. The long list of nutritional qualities contained in coconut water read like any health purist’s dream, containing five of the essential electrolytes – magnesium, calcium, chloride, potassium and sodium, as well as being reassuringly fat-free.
While coconut water is the perfect choice for rehydration during the warmer seasons or post-workout, aside from its refreshing qualities as a drink, over winter we’ve found some other clever ways to take advantage of coconut water’s many benefits. Try one of the tricks below.
1. The overzealous use of heat pumps during the cool winter months can wreck havoc on your skin, leaving your skin parched and dry. Try soaking some cotton pads in coconut water and then apply the pads to your face, leaving them to work their magic for up to 30 minutes. When it’s time to remove, gently buff the pads in a circular motion on the skin. This easy coconut water mask will leave your skin plumped up and seriously hydrated, smooth and radiant.
2. Switch to coconut water at every chance you get. As it’s virtually tasteless. try swapping out milk in smoothies for coconut water or using it as a mixer for cocktails. A bonus? the electrolytes and hydrating qualities contained in coconut water will definitely help to ease the pain of a hangover the next day.
3. Travelling? Coconut water is one of the best ways to rehydrate skin whilst flying. Flying, especially on long-haul flights, can be one of the most drying environments for skin, so it’s important to board the plane prepared. While we also recommend consuming coconut water before and after your flight, try pouring a small amount in a spray bottle (try and do this as close as your can to your time of departure) and use as a hydrating facial spray as often as you like throughout the flight. Doing so will ensure you land with your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated at your destination.
